{"id":648,"date":"2011-10-26T15:08:17","date_gmt":"2011-10-27T01:08:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mymonkeydo.com\/?p=648"},"modified":"2011-10-26T15:08:17","modified_gmt":"2011-10-27T01:08:17","slug":"magento-ecommerce-solution-notes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mymonkeydo.com\/magento-ecommerce-solution-notes\/","title":{"rendered":"Magento eCommerce Solution Notes"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>On install<\/h2>\n<p>I got an error that said the php_pdo_mysql extension is required. \u00a0I added the extension to php.ini, restarted apache, and tried again.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>I got an error similar to this:<\/h2>\n<p><em>Exception printing is disabled by default for security reasons.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Error log record number: <a href=\"http:\/\/localhost\/magento\/errors\/report.php?id=600807966&amp;skin=default\">600807966<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I looked around the web and found that to display errors, you need to rename MAGENTO_ROOT\/errors\/local.xml.sample to MAGENTO_ROOT\/errors\/local.xml. \u00a0Then errors can be displayed.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Then got an error similar to:<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: \u00a01067 Invalid default value for &#8216;period'&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Found the solution at:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.magentocommerce.com\/boards\/viewthread\/263672\/\">http:\/\/www.magentocommerce.com\/boards\/viewthread\/263672\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>ALTER TABLE `coupon_aggregated` CHANGE COLUMN `period` `period` DATE NOT NULL DEFAULT &#8216;0000-00-00&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Finally it installed!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Watching the Magento U Video:<\/h2>\n<p>I signed up for Magento U and started to watch the video. \u00a0The first thing the developer in the video says is how difficult and frustrating Magento is&#8230;. Not very encouraging to developers starting out. \u00a0He warns of how he stayed up late nights figuring out the complexities of Magento. \u00a0 That&#8217;s not too bad if it&#8217;s something you really want to learn.<\/p>\n<p>However, in later videos he mentions that Magento 2 fixes some quirks in the current version of Magento. \u00a0Upon further Googling, I have found that Magento 2 is coming out in Mid &#8211; 2012. \u00a0That is maybe 7 months away from the time of this writing. \u00a0 Then, the fact that breaks all backs, Magento 2 will be a total REWRITE!. \u00a0Which means everything learned today will most likely be thrown away or just used &#8220;in theory&#8221; for the future. \u00a0To me stressing out on something complex only to use it for 7 months, then learn a whole new system is not worth it. \u00a0This is why <a href=\"http:\/\/mymonkeydo.com\/lemonstand-ecommerce-notes\/\">I chose to use LemonStand<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_genesis_hide_title":false,"_genesis_hide_breadcrumbs":false,"_genesis_hide_singular_image":false,"_genesis_hide_footer_widgets":false,"_genesis_custom_body_class":"","_genesis_custom_post_class":"","_genesis_layout":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[3],"tags":[20,46],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v22.3 -
